Nebula: (1) An indistinct cloudlike luminous mass inside a galaxy consisting of hydrogen, helium, and other elements; (2) A hazy or cloudlike set of ideas, feelings, proposals.
Two lovers are surrounded by a galaxy of people who travel, love, dream, suffer, and live between London, Dakar, and Provence. They magically coexist inside in a nebula. This novel tells us what happens when the life we have chosen starts to hem us in, when the couple is not enough, and families expand. We need to find a new balance to reconcile different needs, drives, and desires. This is a modern, topical story, intense and sensual, bursting with feeling and life.
Augusta and James meet in London and start an affair, nurturing their love in an apartment in Notting Hill, with sex, books read aloud between the sheets, food and perfumes. Theirs is an overwhelming passion, fiery, unstoppable... Meanwhile life continues in the outside world. There are daily challenges, work, dreams, and disappointments. There are old and new families, unexpected surprises from Canada, a vacation in Provence, and a large house in Dakar. A cast of varied characters come and go... friends and relations who are psychoanalysts, university professors, diplomats, actors and film directors... each with their own mind and body, ideas and feelings; and each has their own story which intertwines with the central lives of Augusta and James. The relationships in this group are not precisely defined: they are all simultaneously connected and isolated. These characters want to be independent but cannot live without the others, like planets around the sun, like satellites around the planets, each one describing its own orbit. These fragile are relationships are governed by forces that attract and repel, until a precarious but harmonious microcosm of affection is created. Everything is unstable but beautifully balanced inside this human nebula.
