had a new book published, Tra guerra e pace. Ritorno in Palestina-Israele.
In the series Campi del Sapere, section "Gender", Elogio del
margine by bell hooks was published, while the section
"Società" published Meditazioni pascaliane by Pierre
Bourdieu, one of the most renowned contemporary sociologists, and also indiana
by Amartya Sen, Nobel prizewinner for Economics in 1998. Jürgen Habermas
together with Charles Taylor wrote Multiculturismo, a keystone in the
contemporary political debate, which appeared in the series
"Elementi".
Occhiacci di legno by Carlo Ginzburg was the first book published in
"Culture" a new series of which he had been appointed editor. The
aim is to present research and reflections on the themes of co-existence,
intermingling and conflicts between cultures. The book received both the
Viareggio-Rèpaci Prize and the International Mondello City of Palermo Prize.
Another
outstanding success this year for Isabel Allende Afrodite (350,000
copies), a collection of tales, recipes and other aphrodisiacs, while Il
grande boh! by Jovanotti (left) sold 200,000 copies.
José
Saramago, who published Il memoriale del convento with Feltrinelli
in1984, was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. This year saw the 1,500th
title in the series Universale Economica, La polvere dei sogni by the
South African writer André Brink (right). The novel In fine by the
great Israelian writer was published posthumously.
In October 1998 the publishing house Giangiacomo Feltrinelli and the
Feltrinelli Bookshops became two separate companies.
