Pappagalli verdi. Cronache di un chirurgo di guerra by Gino Strada and presented by Moni Ovadia won the International Viareggio-Versilia Prize. The President of the Jury, Cesare Garboli stated "This, is a book that must be read." The photo on the right, taken by Emergency, shows 10-year-old Aziz Mohammad whose hand was injured by the explosion of a land mine while he was cutting grass with a scythe. In the same series, Serie Bianca , Asha Phillipps achieved great success when his book, I no che aiutano a crescere sold 100,000 copies. L'uomo flessibile by Richard Sennett, dealing with the consequences in private life of the new capitalism, was published in Campi del sapere.

Another publication in Campi del sapere was Psiche e techne a dense volume by Umberto Galimberti in which the fundamental concepts of Humanism are reconsidered, dismissed or radically reformulated.

A new editorial initiative was undertaken, a series of children's books, Feltrinelli Kids. One of these new publications, Le lettere del sabato, by Irene Dische, won the Procida Award.

Carlo Feltrinelli wrote Senior Service, a biography of Giangiacomo Feltrinelli,(in the photo, taken by Inge, Feltrinelli can be seen with Fidel). The book tells the history of the publishing house, but at the same time it is the story of a man told by his son. It has been translated in France, Germany, Greece, Russia, Spain, England and the United States.

Günter Grass, who published Il tamburo di latta with Feltrinelli in 1962, was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.

"Zivago" appeared on the scene, the first Italian site where books and music could be chosen and bought on-line. This was an initiative of the group l'Espresso Publishers and of the Feltrinelli Bookshops.
